The Sound of Passion
Marcus studied at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall. He served in the Armed Forces in several countries for a number of years.
After leaving the army, he played and conducted with some of the best-known Big Bands and artistes in London, as well as working with theatre orchestras. He played with the ship’s orchestra aboard the QE2 for some time, as well as working in TV and radio. For many years he was a member of the brass section of the Blues Brothers Tribute Band, touring far afield to places such as the Falklands Islands to entertained the troops. He also pursued his interest in teaching music, working with Surrey County Council.
Marcus decided to pursue a solo career, keen to demonstrate the trombone’s versatility as a solo instrument, a radical step.
To this end, he performed informally all over the country in order to bring the solo trombone to the attention of the public. He has also performed with groups of musicians and soloists both in this country and abroad.
Marcus has developed an enthusiastic following and he has produced a range of solo CD’s, his unique style producing atmospheric music. He has recently been working on diversifying further in some experimental collaborations with DJ’s and creators of new music, whilst also composing his own new pieces and maintaining an ongoing relationship with the classics.
Marcus continues to be active in helping both amateur and professional musicians to further develop their skills. He has been delighted to see many of his pupils progress to professional careers. Marcus is currently Musical Director of the Rutland Big Band. He is also an enthusiastic supporter of the ‘Endangered Species’ programme, promoted by Classic FM and the British Trombone Society, which encourages young musicians to learn the instrument. |
